When September Ends

I'll be honest with you, September is one of my least favorite months of the year. It's when summer turns into fall. School starts back up, the weather cools down. It's a month of change, and it's something I don't take to very well. It's a month filled with some unpleasant memories.

I've mostly spent the month (well, more like the past week and change) just overcome with anxiety. Health anxiety, news anxiety, social anxiety, existential future anxiety, and just every day anxiety. So I really didn't do much except go to work, eat, play video games, and (kind of) sleep. My brain locked itself into a routine that didn't leave much time for a whole lot else.

It was very rainy this month. Hell, this past weekend saw a Nor'easter that knocked out my power for a few hours, and my cable and internet for most of Saturday. I nearly went crazy. So I apologize if this month's entry is a little light.

But I did do one thing this month: saw the new MST3K episode!

You know, I've seen every Rifftrax live show in the theater, but seeing a new episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on the big screen with a crowd was a completely different experience. The show was always at its best when they riffed a cheesy monster movie, and Sting of Death was so amazingly bizarre it's a wonder the show never tackled it until now.

It's good to see Mike and the Bots again. Well, there's been several seasons on streaming with other hosts, but there was something comfortable familiar to see Mike Nelson, with Bill Corbett as Crow, Kevin Murphy back as Tom Servo, and Pearl, Bobo, and Brain Guy back to torment them. It's really like they never left, even though they've all stayed in the riffing game for the past twenty years.

Bad monster costumes, a stupid dance, airheaded characters, Neil Sedaka music, plastic bags that are supposed to be jellyfish, this had it all. If the other three movies in the Rifftrax Experiments are this good, I think we'll be in for a good time.

At least tomorrow is October, and we'll be officially a week away from NYCC! See you then!
